Profile

Independent medical practitioner providing services to patients from Wide Bay Anaesthesia Specialists.

Medical practitioner with specialist training in anaesthesia and intensive care.

Dr Alexander Clifford is a medical doctor with specialist training in anaesthesia and intensive care. He assesses patients before a procedure and plays an important role in caring for them before, during and after surgery.

Dr Clifford is detail oriented, precise in his monitoring of a patient’s wellbeing, and calm under pressure. His specialist expertise and experience combined with his genuine warm and caring nature and excellent communication skills brings certainty in situations where it is common to experience some apprehension or anxiety.

Dr Clifford achieved a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Lund University in Sweden in 1995. He then trained and worked in Sweden and successfully undertook the European Diploma in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (EDAIC) examination in 2002. He is a registered specialist in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care with the Swedish and Danish Medical Boards.

Dr Clifford first came to Australia in 2010 and spent three years in Hervey Bay. He returned to Sweden until 2017, and then moved to Burnie, Tasmania. In 2018, he achieved his Fellowship with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA), and in 2019 moved to Gladstone.

He chose to work in medicine because it allows him to bring comfort to people as he takes an important role in helping them through a significant moment in their life.

Dr Clifford’s decision to settle in Australia was motivated by the Australian climate and culture. He is interested in aviation safety culture and holds a private pilot licence. He also owns and maintains a motor yacht and loves dropping the anchor, watching the sunset and enjoying life in the waters off central coastal Queensland, when the weather is good and he’s not at work. Dr Clifford has recently become an Australian citizen and has been seen wearing thongs outside work, like a real Queenslander.
